Waste stations

In 2021, we recycled an amazing 16kgs of bread tags and 20kgs of batteries. At Solway, we are very proud of our school community collecting items that would otherwise end up in landfill.

Bins available to recycle items into at our waste station:

  • Mobile Phones
  • Batteries - please note no batteries smaller than AAA
  • Small Electronic items eg: headphones, cables, iPad, mouse,
  • Printer cartridges
  • Bread Tags

Terracycle recycling

We also recycle waste through Terracycle recycling programs to encourage families to recycle tricky items they may have around the house and divert them from landfill.

During 2022, we will be collecting oral care and writing instruments and sending them to Terracycle once our bins are full.

Disposable Masks Recycling

We are aware that many students, staff and families are wearing disposable masks at school, which is why we have purchased two more Terracycle mask recycling bins. We have been overwhelmed by the number of masks we have collected so far.

Clean Up Australia Day

Since 2020, Solway’s Green Team have been participating in Clean Up Australia Day. On a Friday afternoon in March, our students head down to Gardiner’s Creek to help in the clean-up, using bags and gloves provided by Clean Up. Once students have collected rubbish from the creek, they audit the rubbish and decide on the appropriate way of disposing of the waste, recycling what can be recycled.
