Environmental Team

Solway Primary School has a Green Team which consists of students who have a passion and drive for Sustainability. The team is made up of one representative from each class in levels 3-6, as well as some additional Year 6 leaders. 

 

Our Green Team set yearly goals within 5 key areas including Biodiversity, Energy, Waste, Water and Curriculum.

Some achievements we have made over the years have been:

  • Raised money for new water tank in the Kitchen Garden
  • Reduced the amount of waste in classrooms
  • Developed and grow a range of vegetables and herbs in the Kitchen Garden
  • Various audits within the school
  • Presented at our 10 Years of Sustainability celebration
  • Mentored schools on their sustainability journeys
  • Developed of a range of signage and displays for classrooms
  • Kids Teaching Kids - Taught sustainability principles to students within the school
  • Added wildlife to various areas of the school such as the Indigenous Garden
  • Created newsletter articles to keep families up to date with sustainability events and dates
  • Participate in initiatives such as Clean Up Australia Day, Ride2School Day, Walk or Wheel Wednesday and Walktober 

Led by the Year 6 Green Team Captains, the Green Team are responsible for many aspects of Sustainability at Solway, including school newsletter articles, assembly presentations, classroom demonstrations and helping to manage and measure our different waste streams.

Our Green Team attend weekly meetings where students create action plans for goals they want to achieve for sustainability throughout the year. They also catch up on any recent sustainability events on our sustainability calendar and promote these events to their classmates.
